Laurie Anderson has arrived on the UC Davis campus, and I was one of the first to see her new performance piece Homeland that she performed at the world-renowned Mondavi Center. Laurie Anderson is one of the most celebrated experimental performers of our time, and it totally doesn’t matter that she is married to the dopest artist ever, LOU REED. Although Anderson does get extra points for this little fact, it doesn’t steer away from her experimental piece Homeland. The show was boring at most times and lacked creativity. Anderson had all the means of delivering a strong performance and fell short. All her political jokes could have been stronger and really nailed it to the Bush administration and the war in Iraq.
 

Anderson’s visuals for the show were rather minimal, and could have incorporated some of her other strong points such as sculpting, rather than relying on the 3 spotlights and 100 or so candles she had strategically placed on the stage around her.
 

Although the show was not a huge success in my book, it did deliver at times, especially when she used the voice synthesizer to play God. All in all you should check the show out and be the judge for yourself. If worse comes to worse you can say you saw Lou Reeds wifey.
