On Thursday I wrote an article about Republican Congressman John Boehner's visit to Brick Street Bar and Grill in Oxford, OH Wednesday night to give a speech favoring fellow Republican John McCain over his "chicken shit," Democratic rival, Barack Obama. As I said in the article, I was unable to attend, since mostly only College Republicans knew about it and those they told. (I guess my invitation got lost in the mail...) In any event, Congressman Boehner has been popping up via campaign commercials on my television ever since his visit. While I'll admit that I've always preferred a fresh, steaming pile of crap representing me than Boehner (some may argue they're one in the same), I feel I need to point out a problem with his campaign commercials and his contradicting character.
There are two Boehner ads out, to my knowledge, both with massive contradictions. Unfortunately, he only has one posted one his YouTube site, so I'll limit my ridicule to the one.
"Remember what the price of gasoline was before the Democrats got control of Congress?" The Congressman asks in a partisan fashion. He immediately follows that with this gem, "Finger pointing won't cut it." Yikes, Congressman. At least when the Democrats point fingers, they don't take out ad time to do so.
But this isn't the first time the congressman has pointed fingers. Immediately after the bailout package failed to get through the House, Mr. Boehner spoke with the press, blaming the failure on a partisan speech Speaker Pelosi gave prior to the vote, scaring Republicans on the fence to vote no.
So Obama is a "chicken shit" for his "present" votes, but your fellow Republicans are brave politicians who's only weakness is when a 68 year old grandmother gives a partisan speech in front of them? Maybe Republican John Shadegg was right when he came out and said that while Pelosi's speech was stupid, it didn't move votes.
Now I realize that Von Stein - Boehner's challenger - probably has about as much of a chance at winning Boehner's seat as I do at getting a real, well paying job after college (please hire me!). But our campus paper has reported that 59% of Miami students support Senator Obama and some comments on the article by Oxford residents indicate that Boehner has disappointed them with his own stupid, partisan speech Thursday night. Maybe, just maybe people will vote for Von Stein tomorrow not in favor of his policies (because seriously, who can recite them without going to his website?), but out of disdain for Mr. Boehner and his finger pointing, which - as he noted - is the real problem in Washington.
