We know you’re all out of school, but we’re going to attempt to keep you abreast on Michigan news this summer with a new feature. Similar to Fresh Cream, Ripe Produce will feature local UMich news that’s “ripe for the reading.” Here are six summer stories you must know.

* First it was poor people, now it’s minorities. They received a record number of applications for the incoming freshmen class, but University officials are disappointed they couldn’t get more “underrepresented minorities” to consider attending

* Rachel, a UMich sophomore, wants you to know last summer she hosted a 80s car wash for charity, which entailed her wearing a bright red, high-waisted, two-piece lifeguard bikini and aviator sunglasses. Judging from her picture, we should hope she’ll do it again this summer.
