Trebek Yuks it Up With Crowd, Promises Return of the 'Stache

Trebek Yuks it Up With Crowd, Promises Return of the 'Stache
The Jeopardy! crowds of about 4,000 were a sea of UW red.

The Jeopardy! crew filmed their annual College Championship at the UW's Kohl Center over the weekend, calling Madison the most hospitable city they have ever visited, according to The Badger Herald.  Indeed Alex Trebek was spotted around town in the days prior to taping, grubbing on Ian's mac & cheese pizza and eating at L'Etoile.

Senior Suchita Shah took some time out of her column-writing, chancellor-screening, med-school applying, student government participating, crime fighting (I wouldn't doubt it) schedule to represent the Badgers for the chance to win $100,000.  Sorry, can't reveal results.  Don't want to cross Trebek.  I will say word on the street is they had to retape the final segment because a contestant started hugging and enthusiastically congratulating the wrong person.  Trebek then joked the guy just wanted to hug the other contestant.

During commercial breaks the personable host fielded audience questions.  What does he do when not hosting?  "I tend to fix sprinklers and drink a lot,” Trebek said.  Don't we all?  He also reassured the crowd that, "The mustache is not gone forever," in response to an audience member holding up a sign reading “Bring Back the ‘Stache.”  Don't toy with us *in best Sean Connery impersonation I can muster*, Trebek!

Speaking of SNL, Trebek admitted to enjoying the impersonations.  "I love it when comics or other shows poke fun at us, it means we have arrived, we're part of Americana and we're beloved enough to not feel insecure and take it in the wrong way."

Among the other schools competing were the University of Michigan, the University of Minnesota, Harvard University, Marquette University and Michigan State University.

The shows will air nationwide May 5 to 16.
