UW Launches New Emergency Text Alert System

UW Launches New Emergency Text Alert System
The long-awaited WiscAlerts text messaging alert system was launched Thursday.

University officials said that those who want to receive the free alert need to access My UW Portal to register a cell phone that is able to receive texts.  Those registered will be notified immediately in the event of an on-campus emergency.  Or that's the theory at least.  Let's hope the text message czar is more timely than the e-mail alerts.

One text message I guarantee registered users will never receive:  "Due to the inclement weather and dangerous traveling conditions, classes have been canceled today."
