Good news for wait-listed students.
There were a record 25,123 applicants who applied for the fall 2008 semester--12, 500 of which were initially admitted, just under half. By late May about 5,500 freshman had committed to UW-Madison. To achieve its target goal, the university will use the wait list.
The wait list was not used at all last year, and only three times in the past nine years. The 2008 list peaked at 950 students, 375 of which gained admittance May 19.
