This is a social experiment, and if you clicked on this post, then you are already a part of it.

After being a Chief Contributer on this site for four months, I think I've finally got the formula down.  During these months, I've found myself putting tremendous thought into certain posts.  I would spend over an hour making sure I used just the right word, just the right punctuation; yet, essentially, I've realized that it simply doesn't matter what's written in the half the time.

Agreed?

I recently wrote a two-piece post, one in which got over 300 hits, another which got maybe 30.  Now, it blew my mind how Part II could triple the amount of hits of Part I.  The explanation?  Well, Part II had a picture of a raging Hamptons party.  You know -- drunk girls in bikinis, Kim Kardashian showing off her goods.

I suppose the formula is simple after all.  Sex sells.  Maybe I'm selling out, but I guess that's what you have to do to make it in the blogosphere.

An interesting experiment. I can tell that you are frustrated by this. Now is the fact that the difference between the number of posts a factor of 10 not 3 a test of critical reading, or if people read the comments? Posted 08/07/2008 1:37 PMReply

It kind of depends on what the other article is about too, isn't it? I know our audience can have a pretty simple taste, but a great post would have the ability to draw everyone in, even if they're usually satisfied with pictures of girls showing their goods. Posted 08/07/2008 2:02 PMReply

SO true! My post on Hottest Colleges (featuring a pic of a skankily positioned girl) got 20,000 hits! Posted 08/07/2008 3:47 PMReply

Hmm...Obviously,it's the male pop. that's providing all the hits!(you know, the sex that "thinks' below their waist?) "Tis truly a sad state of affairs! Posted 08/09/2008 6:13 PMReply
