Vanderbilt Recession Tip #1: Popular College Majors and Starting Salaries

With the economy the way it is now, there is one thing on every worried college students' mind: getting a job after college. And more importantly, getting a job that pays, and pays well after college. In years past, gloaty finance majors would have snagged the cake on this one, but that may no longer be the case. A CNN study reviews the 10 most popular undergraduate majors and their average starting salary. Sorry, liberal arts majors--there's still nothing much you can do with a BA in English.

1. Business Administration & Management: $57,132.
2. Communications: $30,921
3. Computer Science: $46,849

4. Criminal Justice: $38,182
5. Elementary Education: $29,414
6. Marketing: $59,471
7. Nursing: $41,173
8. Psychology: $46,153.
9. Political Science: $36,368
10. Biology: $38,896

Although this list may cause some anxious underclassmen to reconsider their course of study, I have to say I'm pleased--my very own major is up there in the top 2.
