Sweet Tea Vodka Introduces Some Charming Southern Nostalgia Into UGA Students' Hard Partying Ways

Vodka is a quick and dirty way to ride the blackout express, but what if it was also a little homage to the Dirty South? That just may be the idea behind a new type of vodka sweeping the University of Georgia, Clemson and the University of South Carolina.

Firefly Sweet Tea Vodka combines the Southern charm of sweet tea with the wild shenanigans of hard alcohol. The concept is genius: Have students liken getting wasted with lazy days spent with grandma. Because, why not?

Scott Newitt, an LSU alum, and Jim Irvin, a Vanderbilt grad, created the winning combination and launched it this summer. Newitt tells UGA’s Red and Black: "I grew up in the South and drank sweet tea like it was milk." What he failed to mention was that he drank sweet tea like it was milk, but really wished that milk was a strong ass cocktail. Fortunately others don’t have to experience the same sense of deprivation. Interns have promoted it at colleges in the region and the vodka most recently hit Athens, GA.

"I think it's awesome," said Brian Miller, a UGA junior from Charlotte, N.C., in the article. "Sweet tea is my favorite drink and plus alcohol is a winner."

Yes little Brian, alcohol is a winner.

I would have thought bourbon but you can't really insult bourbon by mixing it. Good product.
