UNC Cafeteria: The Hipsters

UNC Cafeteria: The Hipsters

Who they are: Naturally, because UNC is a liberal (or "liberal," depending on how you look at it) school, the campus is crawling with hipsters. Seriously, they're everywhere...well, everywhere that isn't the beaten path. They hang out in Carrboro, they frequent Cat's Cradle and Local 506, and they actually know local bands, listen to them, and probably even pay for CDs (gasp!, but yes, some people still do that). Their dress code is strict: try to look cool, but don't let anyone ever know that you tried. Hence thoughtfully planned out layers of clothing paired with a slight disheveled-ness. Brilliant.

Why we love them: Without the hipsters, what would become of the Chapel Hill/Carrboro music scene? In fact, without hipsters worldwide, who would buy CDs and support indie bands? Not to mention that the colorful knockoff Wayfarer market would probably crumble.

Why we love to hate them: It's odd how all of them have a fairly similar idea of what is "unique." Some of us may just call this uniqueness "trendiness," but we'll agree to disagree. Another reason we love to hate the hipsters? We all know that you're uncomfortably hot wearing a scarf during the summer...stop lying.
