CRIME ALERT –Robbery
It was reported to Vanderbilt Police Department that a robbery occurred at approximately 9:35 pm on April 13, 2008 near Rand Hall. A student reported she was walking by Rand Terrace when an unknown subject walked up to her, said “hi” to her, punched her in the eye and then grabbed her purse. Subject ran but dropped the purse a short distance later when he saw other people in the area.

UPDATE TO THE CRIME ALERT distributed on April 14, 2008. The Robbery that was reported to have occurred near Rand Hall on April 13, 2008 has been classified as unfounded. The victim admitted to VPD detectives that the incident did not occur.

Um, what? Hello, girl-who-cried-robbery. Why make this up? Certainly not for attention, the Crime Alerts are anonymous. And certainly not to help Vanderbilt’s crime rep (Allegedly, we had more rapes in 2008 than any other TN university combined). There is simply no reason for this lie to have occurred.
VPD should release the non-victim’s name. Just for sh*ts and giggles.
