Vanderbilt No Longer Sucks, Breaks Into AP Top 25

Vanderbilt No Longer Sucks, Breaks Into AP Top 25

The SEC has another force to be reckoned with… and surprisingly enough, it’s Vanderbilt.

The school’s football team cracked the AP Top 25 for the first time in 24 years. Who says they’re the weakest team in the conference now?

Okay, there may have been some justification for that reputation in the past. Check out what the AP has to say about it:

Vanderbilt, the only private school in the SEC and the smallest by student body, was ranked as high as 19th in 1984 after starting 4-0. That season the Commodores finished 5-6. The last time Vanderbilt had a winning season was 1982, when it went 8-4 and played in the Hall of Fame bowl.

Ouch, the last winning season was 1982? Vanderbilt’s seniors weren’t even alive yet! But, so far,  things are on the upswing this year. The Commodores are unbeaten and came in at No. 21 in the latest rankings. After Saturday’s win against Mississippi, Vanderbilt is now 4-0 for the second time in four seasons, but for only the fourth time since WWII.

With a record like that, things have to start looking up.
