An article in the Boston Globe today about summer jobs (apparently, fewer and fewer teenagers are working them and are instead doing bullshit like volunteering in third-world countries in overtly obvious attempts to pad their college apps) quotes our own dean of undergraduate admissions, Lee Coffin, and what he says is pretty much enough to make me throw up in my mouth a little. Apparently, he estimates that only ONE QUARTER of Tufts applicants have ever held down a steady job, and seeing an application where a student works 20 hours a week in the summer is "refreshing."
ARE YOU KIDDING ME? No wonder we're so full of entitled ****s (and apparently just getting worse). Three-fourths of our student body haven't ever had to work! I vote that kids who have never held a job (this is counting during the summer, people) are only allowed into Tufts if they're made to work in the dining halls, the Telefund, or some other shitty on-campus position that will teach them the experience of getting money from a paycheck instead of from Daddy's credit card and their trust fund.
