Well Bungie’s long awaiting, much delayed announcement has finally been made, and it’s a new Halo game. No, not Halo 4, it’s more like Halo 3.5. Check out the trailer for Halo 3: Recon above.

You are no longer Master Chief, instead you’re simply a different Spartan outfitted in “Recon” armor who crash lands on some Covenant infested planet and presumably fight your way back to human civilization. I know, I know, you’ve all grown so attached to the mute-faceless hero, how can a different mute-faceless hero possibly be subbed in? Well, somehow I think we’ll survive. The trailer is just and extended cutscene with no gameplay footage, and it's just a Recon Spartan and a few Covenenant walking around, but I'll be damned if it didn't send chills up my spine anyways.

The game is set to be a released a full YEAR from now, which is eye-rolling but not wholly unexpected. More details are sure to follow, but right now it’s unclear that besides from a new campaign mode, if and how Halo 3: Recon will affect the current multiplayer.

And dear lord, there had better not be Flood in this new game. I swear…
