There's no better way to make yourself completely exhausted than to attend a Tar Heel football and basketball double header.
This past Saturday the now no. 17 Tar Heel football team beat Georgia Tech 28-7--all while wearing navy blue jerseys (Coach Davis, can we stick with Carolina blue please? Thanks). Now all the Tar Heels have to win their next three games and hope Virginia Tech chokes in at least one of theirs and Carolina is headed to a bowl game.
Saturday evening marked the debut on the court of the first-ever consensus no. 1 basketball team since the origin of preseason rankings. Even though it was depressing to see three Tar Heels benched with injuries, it was good to see Danny Green sneak in a dance move or two from his starting position while assistant coaches did their best Green impressions on the sideline during "Jump Around."
The freshman class looked pretty good on the court. Although Tyler Zeller got the starting position for the exhibition game against UNC-Pembroke, it was Ed Davis who looked like a college basketball veteran. Zeller, however, will be one to watch once he adjusts to playing at the college level in front of a sold out Dean Dome. Only his own nerves kept him from playing 100 percent. Larry Drew II wasn't quite as solid as Davis, but it is clear that he is ready to pick up where Q left off (it doesn't hurt that the two share the same number and that the crowd can cheer for them in the same way).
Finally, to end the weekend, the Carolina women's soccer team won its 19th ACC Championship on Sunday with a 3-0 shut out of Virginia Tech.
Oh, and I should add that IT IS OFFICIALLY BASKETBALL SEASON! Get excited.
