The moment has arrived! One of my favorite new sites, a project of Wesleyan alums Tala Bouzarjomehri '08 and Jillian White '08, has been updated several times recently. I posted previously about their SOPHISTA-FUNK blog and mentioned that the two had still other brilliant blogs in the works. Their new Wordpress site, TRENDOLOGY is where its at, my friends. It offers choice information about new trends and innovations, good deals, rare finds, 'cheap but fly' fashions, and relevant reflections that will appeal to both the fashion-conscious and intellectual-leaning crowds. Whether your choice is a simple J. Crew sweater and GAP jeans or you hunt the vintage racks for the rarest originals, you will find their site engaging. Like it or not, we all use clothing to send messages about ourselves and our personalities. Fashion is an important part of any society or culture and an ever-changing industry. It stirs people to criticize and idolize. It's a fascinating area of human interaction, despite its simplifications into well-packaged commercial trends in most teenie-bopper magazines. While TRENDOLOGY takes the notion of fashion as a dynamic enterprise in stride for the most part, one of its writers does wonder about the role of fashion in her life:

"There are times when I wonder what all this knowledge about the fashion world is good for. How does it tie into my Psychology degree or plans to be a social worker? Worse, there are the times when I feel tempted to add up all of the dollars and pennies that I’ve spent on fashion mags in my lifetime. I may only be 22 but I know the total is grotesque. And yet, fashion is my passion. I’ve tried to deny it and yet, I get itchy palms and a racing heart every time that I see a new copy of Lucky or get near a well designed frock. And now, with the rise of fashion blogs, I find myself drawn in even further."

I think that the Psychology degree may actually have some important future connections in the way that the TRENDOLOGY blog develops and the way that one of its authors thinks about fashion. It may not seem to directly connect now, but you never know where your education will lead you, especially if you're coming from the liberal arts. I say: read and study promiscuously, dream lavishly, contemplate dramatically... and see where your thoughts take you. I think the author's education is already on its way to manifesting itself in full-effect, read as she reflects: "The industry can no longer be contained to two arenas high fashion and commercial, it has evolved into thousands of enclaves." That is what I call a thoughtful comment. And that is the kind of content that makes TRENDOLOGY stand out among its peer fashion blogs and it will keep visitors coming back for more.
