Cool Spots Around Campus: The Alsop House

Cool Spots Around Campus: The Alsop House
The Alsop House hits you like a dream when you first enter it. You enter that big pink building known as the Davison Art Center, walk left down a nondescript hallway, walk left again into a darker hallway, and then right into a dimly lit chamber. It's eerie, seemingly out of place on the Wesleyan campus. A wonderful blue glow emanates throughout the room, and your eyes wander upwards to find the source. As they do, you see a beautiful wall painting above a gently curving staircase (pictured above) that winds upwards to a balcony and a blue skylight.

The wonders only continue - you realize this house also has several restored rooms, full of antique furniture and more lovely wall & ceiling paintings. The Alsop House is easily one of the finest interiors on the Wesleyan campus - rivaled only by Olin Library, the Memorial Chapel, and the Center for Film Studies. And it's very little known.

This serene oasis in the midst of the bustling Wesleyan campus is open Tuesday-Sunday 12pm-4pm. I highly encourage a visit - you will leave enlightened.
