Remember When Obama Addressed Wesleyan and the World?

Do you recall when president-elect Barack Obama spoke at Wesleyan's 176th commencement? Remember when 15,000 people gathered on Andrus Field and Foss Hill? Can you picture the Secret Service perched atop of Zelnick Pavillon?

I thought I'd remind our OTR fans of this special day in Wesleyan history, especially as election day fast approaches.

Obama's call to arms urged students to engage in civil service and to utilize their educations to make change.

"At a time of war, we need you to work for peace," Obama said. "At a time of inequality, we need you to work for opportunity. At a time of so much cynicism and so much doubt, we need you to make us believe again. That's your task, Class of 2008.

We may disagree as Americans on certain issues and positions, but I believe we can be unified in service to a greater good. I intend to make it a cause of my presidency, and I believe with all my heart that this generation is ready and eager and up to the challenge."

Senator Barack Obama received an honorary doctorate of laws from the University. Does this mean Barack's a Wesleyan alumnus?
