The Ivy League has been called many things: overrated, overpriced, a home to spoiled rich kids and nerd rejects, etc. And now, we can add one more to the list – branch office of the U.S. Government.
In an open letter to Princeton’s Gary J. Bass, Louis Proyect, a devout Marxist and angry blogger #2323223, slams the Ivy League professor for an article he wrote in the NY Times entitled “Humanitarian Impulses.”
Apparently, Proyect, who calls himself “The Unrepentant Marxist,” took particular offense to Bass’ supposition that “many of the world’s necessary interventions in the decade before the invasion [of Iraq] in places like Haiti and the Balkans would seem impossible in today’s climate.”
Instead of directing his retort towards the professor, however, Proyect bashes the entire Ivy League.
“Excuse me, professor, I know that you are a disadvantage teaching at a place like Princeton, which like Columbia, Yale and Harvard are branch offices of the U.S. State Department…”
Wait – really?! Considering Columbia students, in particular, organize protests over every other word that comes out the government’s mouth, I’m not sure how you arrived at such a blanket opinion.
But wait – there’s more.
“Some day the lying propagandists who have made a career at prestigious Ivy League colleges will have to be accountable to a world that is sick of U.S. bullying and corporate plunder. The sooner the better.”
Oh – I see now. The Ivy League isn’t a safe haven for rich kids or nerd rejects, like I thought; it’s a festering pool of large-mouth propagandists.
Right.
Well, Mr. Proyect, who's the bigger "large-mouth propagandist": the man who writes an article in a newspaper, or the one who feels inclined to belittle the opinions of others with sweeping generalizations about entire student bodies?
