When the automatic smoke alarm went off in a UCF dorm Sunday night, students most likely assumed some idiot had left the popcorn in his microwave too long. What they probably didn’t expect was an explosion caused by a meth lab experiment gone wrong in Wendell Davis McKee’s room.
 

The small explosion brought authorities to Building 109 at the Academic Village where smoke was pouring out from under the dorm room door. When an RA opened the door, there was no one to be found, but there was shattered glass, matches and all the equipment necessary for a methamphetamine lab.
 

In what can only be described as perfect timing, McKee, a freshman biomedical-sciences student, showed up a few minutes after the police. It’s always the science guys, right? He told officers that he has a drug-abuse problem and when he couldn’t find a dealer, he decided to make his own hard stuff. At least he’s a problem solver.
 

Needless to say, McKee was arrested. He was charged with first-degree arson, manufacturing a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a college and sale or delivery of a controlled substance. Not exactly the stuff resumes are made of.
