Early Monday morning, several shots were fired near the Chapel-York Street intersection just outside of Yale University, leaving many students on edge while the unidentified gunman remained free.
Thankfully, authorities have apprehended the mischievous shooter – a 16-year-old New Haven youth who was found in possession of a sawed-off .22-caliber rifle.
Allegedly, the teen fired twelve shots near a crowd of 60 to 85 people around 12:45 a.m., which caused the group to flee in terror and alerted two nearby Yale Police Department vehicles.
The Yale Daily News reports:
The witness said there were two YPD squad cars parked on either side of the group of teenagers before the shots began, one close to the intersection with Chapel Street and one along Crown Street. The officers in these squad cars had been dispatched in order to “assist with facilitating pedestrian traffic leaving a downtown club,” Woznyk said.
Alongside New Haven Police Department officers, YPD Officers Roderick McLane and Tristan Barnes began to search for the person who had fired the shots, Woznyk said. They found an individual in possession of a gun hiding in an alleyway behind the York Street Noodle House at 166 York St., according to the YPD.
You’d think the boy would have attempted to ditch the rifle, but considering he fired the weapon with roughly 85 witnesses and two police cars around, he probably wasn’t smart enough to do that or use gloves.
This, ladies and gents, is proof positive that just because New Haven is home to Yale doesn’t mean its residents are particularly bright.
