In an effort to progress and expand its student body, President Richard C. Levin publicly announced in a letter to Yale alumni, faculty, students and staff the decision to establish two new residential colleges in order to increase Yale enrollment by 15%.
Currently, Yale College admits fewer than 10% of the 20,000 plus students who apply each year.
In the letter Levin stated: “This expansion will allow us to make an even greater contribution to society by preparing a larger number of talented and promising students of all backgrounds for leadership and service.”
The new colleges are expected to open in 2013.
