Yale's Results Are In

Well, Obama won. No huge surprise there.

A bit more surprising was Yale's reaction. Upon learning of his impending victory, Yalies went wild, flooding courtyards. One obviously inebriated student was heard yelling "Vom for Obam!" in what was a drunken attempt to laud his hero. Obama's speech created a lull in the outdoor festivities, as the hordes ran inside to watch him claim victory (this reporter overheard one girl yell "Oh my God, he's beautiful!" as Obama came on TV, and can only hope she was being ironic). This was a short-lived calm; after the end of the speech, crowds began assembling, and spontaneously made their way to Old Campus.

Old Campus was riotous. Maybe a quarter of Yale College was outside, and chants of "Yes, we DID!" were heard from the residential colleges surrounding Old Campus. The fervency of the impromptu rally was uncanny, and at times it was unclear to what extend the praise of Obama was being carried. A large group of young, rich, excited, over-educated people congregating to sing populist praises and recite slogans of a great orator and strong leader is not something one sees every day. However, the excesses seemed to be of a forgivable sort, especially considering what Obama's winning represents -- Bush is out, and America isn't as racist as we all thought.

The rally continued for quite some time, and included some fireworks, set off to the chagrin of the police. In all, it is a historic occasion to see Obama elected as President, especially considering this poll, and that is the truth most people will pay the most attention to, Yalies (with their focus on Political Correctness and diversity) espeically.
