I am in a different sorority at hofstra and i know first hand that these are some of the most amazing, genuine, sweetest girls i've ever met. Besides the fact that they have done so much for greek life and the school... fundraisers and philanthropies... they are highly respected by everyone else in the greek community. Im not going to say this girl is trash or that her mom is an addict bc I dont know her... but look at the facts... every claim she has made about their pledge program has to be rumors and hearsay... bc she only lasted 5 days through it. How would she know about what happens on hell night if she did not have the balls to make it all the way through. as for the rest of their pledge program, if it is so bad... why is she the only girl that depledged? Phi Ep has been going strong with so many girls for decades. If it was so bad, why would anyone be able to last through the entire thing?? No one is expecting people to sit back and "take it". What is being suggested, is that there is a way to fight back without resorting to tactics that are not productive. Don't you agree that calling people "skank", "trailer park", "crackhead" and whatever else, is counter-productive? It might make you feel better, but it does absolutely nothing but throw emotional fuel on the fire. i really dont think any of this whole situation is productive in any way. pledging/hazing is part of initiation. you have to earn your way into the group just like you earn your way onto a sports team, or you earn your acceptance to college. granted the requirements are different but everyone knows what they are getting themselves into and its is a conscious choice you make. If you were allowed to become a member of the sorority without going through what everyone else went through, the sisters would have no respect for you after getting in. people make mistakes, cant handle it, or change their mind and depledge, but is it necessary to create publicity for something this petty? to all the peopleee on here sayinggg courtneyyy did this becuz she couldnt last your WRONGGGGGGGGGGGG so before you go throwing out accusations make sure you get your facts straight. courtney along with everyone else in the world is entitled to not go through with something if they don;t want to. there is no written rule that says once you join Phi Ep theres no possible way to get out. courtney along with many other girls im sure went in there thinking that it was going to be like any other sorority with fun hazing. when i didn;t talk to courtney for the duration of her pledging i knew something was up. practicing things like line ups in which the pledges are lined up for over 5 hours without being able to sit and literally screamed at by the sisters is barbaric. on top of that humiliating them in front of an entiree cafe of people is not only horrible its beyond degrading. this sorority's motto was respect and its actually ironic becuz respect isnt seen anywhere. when girls smiled or laughed they were screamed at by the sisters who the hell wants to deal with that. sorry guys courtney is a hilarious person and laughs all the time she realized that after the pledging process she was going to be stuck with girls she didnt even like. it was HER CHOICE to back out which she's allowed to do. after being harassed continually and being told that most people who quit phi ep have to transfer, being harassed all around campus, dealing with girls surrounding her and screaming at her and even physically fighting with her like any other sane person shee put a stop to it. There are rumors that circulate about every fraternity and sorority with regards to their pledge process. some girl with an extremely overactive imagination stretched the truth, embellished the rumors, and created a mass hysteria because she was unable to put in some time commitment toward a wonderful organization. Phi Epsilon IS and will continue to be one of the most respected groups on Hofstra's campus. I have been a part of Greek life for two years, and a student at Hofstra for four. I have never seen anything like this within regards to them. They have been around for over seventy years, if all these terrible things were true don't you think that this issue would have been brought up a long time ago? More importantly why not discuss the tens of thousands of dollars Phi Epsilon donates for Pediatric Cancer each year? Not some bogus stories based on speculation. Bottom line: this girl "Holt" is crazy and if anything all Phi Ep did wrong was bid her. It takes two to tango, so she cannot claim to be such a victim of harassment. Grow up and move on.
