Remember how a month ago we were still hearing about how Barack Obama needed to stop pussy-footing around and get aggressive? Well, now a Georgian congressman named Paul Broun is admonishing America that President-Elect Obama might be the next Adolf Hitler. Yes, Obama as in the first black American president. Yes, Hitler as in the man who with a bit of Gleichschaltung and Third Reich rhetoric was responsible for the deaths of 6 million Jews, not to mention the gypsies, homosexuals, and other non-Aryans during the Holocaust. Evidently when Herr Broun heard Obama’s speech last week, he thought the “Yes we can” motif referred to beginning WWIII.

Jake Tapper of ABC News writes:

Rep. Paul Broun, R-Georgia, recently said that he fears President-elect Obama may create a security force akin to the Gestapo to impose a Marxist dictatorship.

"It may sound a bit crazy and off base, but the thing is, he's the one who proposed this national security force," Broun told The Associated Press. "I'm just trying to bring attention to the fact that we may - may not, I hope not - but we may have a problem with that type of philosophy of radical socialism or Marxism."

In July, Broun explained, Obama spoke of creating a civilian force so as to help the military shoulder some of the nation's national security burden...

"That's exactly what Hitler did in Nazi Germany and it's exactly what the Soviet Union did," Broun said. "When he's proposing to have a national security force that's answering to him, that is as strong as the U.S. military, he's showing me signs of being Marxist."

Broun theorized that after Obama creates this national police force he'll ban gun ownership.

"We can't be lulled into complacency," Broun said. "You have to remember that Adolf Hitler was elected in a democratic Germany. I'm not comparing him to Adolf Hitler. What I'm saying is there is the potential."

Minimally Broun shows a sliver of self-awareness. He might be “crazy and off base,” but at least he knows it! Maybe while we’re getting vigilant though, we should be wondering why Broun, a man who voted no on the Sexual Orientation Employment Nondiscrimination Act and no on the Unequal Pay Bill, is likening anyone else to Hitler.

Lets get a few facts established! When will Republicans learn that fear tactics donâ��t work with freethinking Americans, and can only be effective with hardcore Republicans that find it impossible to think beyond what is taught to them by Fox News, Rush Limbaugh and racial Republicans such as Paul Broun!

Are Republicans aware that President Bush helped establish and promote Blackwater USA when Bush granted Blackwater USA no-bid contracts in Iraq and Afghanistan? Bush also sent 150 Blackwater armed troops to secure New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.

The founder of Blackwater is Erik Prince, a conservative Christian who has given an incredible amount of money to Republican candidates and Christian right groups. Blackwater is located on over 6000 acres in Moyack, N.C., and has itâ��s own Air
Force.

It is possible that Americans should be concerned about Evangelical Churches that are teaching hatred and Nazi beliefs, and promoting individuals such as Palin who purposely promoted aggressive reactions from crowds that attended her hatred filled rallies â�� similar tactics used by Hitler. Don't jump the gun and think I'm anti-Obama for this comment. Truth is I voted for him, if for no other reason than curiosity. I'm pretty sure that Obama is either going to be the next JFK, or something like the next Hitler. No, he's not going to start shuttling any racial group off to death camps (FYI that was largely Himmler's doing, not so much Hitler's anyway), but his campaign certainly reflects the history we saw in Germany all those years ago. I think what makes him like Hitler is not one little part of a speech as Broun claims, but his vast appeal, his quick rise to power, his promise of change as part of his appeal, and quite frankly his propaganda. Hitler if nothing else was an eloquent speaker and a fabulous propagandist (aided largely by ol' Joe Goebles), and I see a lot of paralells in Obama. Another thing the Fuhrer hads in common with Obama is that they were/are both well-received by the rest of the world at first. Hitler was lauded for pulling Germany out of it's depression at the start of his reign, and improving international relations, and almost everyone just dismissed his anti-semitism as a "quirk." Oh, something creepy... a while back I was looking at a book titled "The Rise of Obama," only to walk into my library and find a book titled "The Rise of Hitler." Is it just me or was the former title in bad taste? What truly makes that creepy is the history and economic conditions of post-Versailles Germany--they're not too different than what we have in the USA right now. History repeating itself? The late and brilliant Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. wrote a character into his early book "Mother Night" by the name of Robert Sterling Wilson, the Black Fuhrer of Harlem... I wonder if that's who we elected. My father was born in another country.

I was not his only child. He fathered several children with numerous women.

I became active in local politics in my 30's then with help behind the scenes, I literally burst onto the scene as a candidate for national office in my 40s. They said I had a golden tongue and could talk anyone into anything. That reinforced my conceit.

I had a virtually non-existent resume, little work history, and no experience in leading a single organization. Yet I was a powerful speaker and citizens were drawn to me as though I were a magnet and they were small roofing tacks.

I drew incredibly large crowds during my public appearances. This bolstered my ego.

At first, my political campaign focused on my country's foreign policy. I was very critical of my country in the last war and seized every opportunity to bash my country.

But what launched my rise to national prominence were my views on the country's economy. I pretended to have a really good plan on how we could do better and every poor person would be fed & housed for free.

I knew which group was responsible for getting us into this mess. It was the free market, banks & corporations. I decided to start making citizens hate them & if they were envious of others who did well, the plan was clinched tight.

I called mine "A People's Campaign" and that sounded good to all people.

I was the surprise candidate because I emerged from outside the traditional path of politics & was able to gain widespread popular support.

I knew that, if I merely offered the people 'hope' , together we could change our country and the world. So, I started to make my speeches sound like they were on behalf of the downtrodden, poor, ignorant to include "persecuted minorities" like the Jews. My true views were not widely known & I needed to keep them unknown, until after I became my nation's leader.

I had to carefully guard reality, as anybody could have easily found out what I really believed, if they had simply read my writings and examined those people I associated with. I'm glad they didn't.

Then I became the most powerful man in the world. And the world learned the truth.
