If you think graduating from an Ivy League school is difficult, imagine doing it with straight A’s.
Last spring, Brittney Lane, 22, accomplished this daunting task by graduating from Harvard with a perfect 4.0 – a feat that has only been achieved six times since the Ivy League university computerized its records in 1982.
Thanks to her four years of intensive studying, Brittney now holds a highly prestigious job at Blockbuster Video – until she gets into law school.
The FresnoBee reports:
Of her Harvard straight A's, Lane said: "It didn't seem very real at first."
Lane said her quest for the perfect report card began in her freshman year after she aced a difficult music studies paper and realized "I can do this." While playing Trivial Pursuit with a group of male dorm friends, she mentioned her goal.
"They basically said, 'You're out of your mind. Don't even try it,' “Lane said.
They also told her as a woman, it would be especially hard.
Wait – why would gender matter? Does the lack of a Y-chromosome make women incapable of perfection?
Doubt it.
The only thing that should matter is the mental welfare of the individual attempting such a task, because a person with such a thirst for self-inflicted pain is either mentally unsound or a superhuman living amongst a sea of slacking mere mortals.
Yeah -- definitely the latter.

A few decades ago I graduated from a top university 2nd in my class (out of 14,000 students).
The economy was in recession and a job I had lined up for after graudation fell through when the company went bankrupt.
So, for more than a year after accomplishing my academic feat, I repossessed rented TVs and VCRs from renters who had fallen behind on their payments. I spent more than half of my working day walking around the worst of the worst housing projects in New York City. I made $290 every two weeks and that included an extra $50/month for my willingness to visit these housing projects at night (resulting in my having the highest repo yield per day).
Ten years later I had a wonderful wife, three beautiful children, the best job in the world (no, for all the wiseguys out there, I had not graduated to repossessing cars), many friends, and a net worth of $10 million.
Whatever you choose to pursue in life I'm sure you'll be very succesful. For the time being, if you're having trouble with any people not returning their rented movies, I can give you some tips on how to get those movies back.

I went to UCLA. Now I'm in a good law school. For some of the year between the two, I worked at a picture frame shop for two dollars above minimum wage. There's nothing wrong with a quick job for a bit of quick cash, you twat of an article. Posted 09/05/2008 2:00 PMReply
However, If I have to shun friends and family then to me it's just not worth it. Posted 09/05/2008 2:28 PMReply

WOW. Congratulations. I was an average MIT undergrad and very impressed. I'll be sure to look up your name in ten years.
Pio, You sound like one of my good friends. If I ever meet you, the beers are on me.

I worked in a restaurant over the summer while taking classes (for fun) and it was a rather refreshing change of pace.
Just because you go/went to a nice school doesn't mean certain jobs are beneath you. Posted 09/06/2008 05:57 AMReply
