Music Spotlight: Cutting Room Floor

The frontman of Cutting Room Floor, Justin Cates, hit up the CollegeOTR Music Spotlight to get a little upstate New York flavor in the mix. The band members are from all over, literally. Justin attends Virginia Tech, Brian Chester (lead guitar) recently graduated from Notre Dame, Luke Sweet (bass, vocals) from SUNY Fredonia and Alan Brown (percussion) from the University of Buffalo.

Justin assures us that the band keeps up with their music relationship, though they are scattered between different cities and states. "We just work over the summer. We work on our own ideas [during the academic year]," says Cates.

You can find new and old music from Cutting Room Floor at their MySpace page. The 2008 release, In Our Luck, is a new approach to the gritty alternative rock melodies of the band. The album title was derived from an unlikely place, "In Our Luck is from the Virginia Tech fight song lyrics...the phrase just stuck with me," says Cates. We hope that it sticks with you too.

Must Have Track: "Stars & Slights"

We want to hear what you think of the band? Leave comments, tell where they need improvement or tell them where to go -- yea or nay, you decide!

If you have any bands (or if you're in a band) you can have it featured on CollegeOTR. Send any submissions for Music Spotlight to organicdiscordance@gmail.com, or hector@collegeotr.com.
