Official OSU Rules: Beer Pong

Official OSU Rules: Beer Pong
It is about time we, as an OSU community, decide on the final rules for drinking games. Anyone else annoyed with going to a house party, sitting down to play a game, and spending fifteen minutes figuring out the rules to go by? This week we chronicle "Beer Pong", which has become the national college pastime. If you'd like to add rules or suggestions, feel free to comment.

Name: Beer Pong

Alternate Names: Beirut, Pong

Required Equipment: Table, 20 cups, 2 water cups, 2 beer pong balls

Number of People: 4

Setup: Form a large triangle of 10 cups on each side, evenly placed, and pour beer.

Play:
  • Whoever won the previous game goes first. Team starts with both balls and shoots at the opposing team's cups.
  • If one is made, it must be taken away. If a bounce is made, the cup made and one of the shooting team's choosing is taken away. If both shooters make their balls, the balls are given back for an additional throw.
  • Any ball that hits a cup or the table may be swatted away. If a ball is swatted away before hitting anything, a cup is taken away and the shot is treated as a made cup.
  • Distractions are allowed.
  • One rerack is permitted per game. The rerack may not be longer than 4 cups towards the center of the table. All cups must touch and one cup must touch the edge of the table.
  • If a team makes the last two cups in one turn, or makes the last cup twice in one turn, the game is over. Otherwise, when all cups are made the other team is allowed a rebuttal. A rebuttal is shoot-until-you-miss style, and all cups must be made. If all cups are made by one person, the other person has a chance to shoot. If he makes it, the rebuttal team is now winning and the other team must rebuttal; otherwise, the game is treated as even, with 1 cup remaining.

Game Over When: A team's cups are all gone and no rebuttal is made.

Special Rules: Almost too many to list...
  • You must drink before you shoot.
  • Death cup - Any cup off the table with beer still in it is live and if made, is the end of the game.
  • Hang Time - If a player makes two straight shots, he must announce "Heating Up". If he makes his next shot (on that turn or the next), he announces "On Fire" and then shoots until he misses.
  • One Cup Rebuttal - A team only needs to make one cup to rebuttal.
  • Overtime - Teams rerack three cups in a triangle after a rebuttal has been made.
  • Bitches blow, dudes finger.
  • Additional rebuttals.
