Austin Scott Still Thinks He Can Play In The NFL
There hasn't been a lot of news out of the Austin Scott camp recently, especially in football-related terms. I had kind of assumed he had given up hope of a pro career. Or at least an NFL career. But I would be wrong, since Scott just signed to have SKI & Company (whose site is mysteriously "unavailable") represent him as the NFL Draft approaches. Now the question is, will a team really give him a shot with a rape case still hanging over his head?

The SKI & Company press release says Scott is "eager to participate" in the March 18 Pro Day at Penn State. But, the last I heard Scott was kicked off the team, so I think it's a little doubtful the program would allow him to participate in a pro day. So whatever the plans are to show that Scott is still in football shape some four months after he last played, I think it's going to have to be shown somewhere besides the Penn State facilities.

Obviously Scott wasn't at the NFL combine, where Dan Connor, Justin King and Anthony Morelli showed their skills to NFL scouts. So it'll be interesting to see what the next move is for Scott. I think it's safe to say a team will at the very least sign him as an undrafted free agent. But Scott never really blossomed into the running back that he was imagined to be coming out of high school, and in fact the running game improved once he was out of the line-up last year. So, even without the "circumstances facing Austin off the field," as the press release puts it, Scott has a lot to prove.

By the way, an interesting NFL combine side note: in a Q&A on the NFL's website, Dan Connor was asked what the five most played songs are on his iPod. His answer - Wang Chung "Let's Go;" Tiny Tim "Tiptoe through the Tulips;" Kenny G "Songbird;" The Gleaming Spins "Are You Ready;" Wham "Wake Me Up Before You Go." Are you going to suggest some other music to him? I'm not. Good call Dan, good call!
