In The Name Of Football, LSU To Ignore Deadly Storm Approaching

Three years after Katrina devastated New Orleans, the city is nervously preparing for Hurricane Gustav. The most vulnerable residents, including the disabled and the elderly, are being evacuated and many more may soon be forced to leave.

But in the face of looming danger and lingering sadness, the LSU football show must go on. The season opener against Appalachian State was scheduled for 4 p.m. Saturday, but because of Gustav, it has been moved up to start at 10 a.m. instead.

USA Today has the official word on the change:

“There will be no pregame festivities and fans are encouraged to leave the stadium after the game as expeditiously as possible,” LSU spokesman Charles Zewe told Gannett Friday afternoon. “The game will be at 10 a.m. The governor and LSU officials agreed that because of overriding safety concerns, they had to change the game time.”

So another killer storm may be headed forNew Orleans and people are staying to watch football?

Guys, just ignore the ominous dark clouds and strong wind, we have a game to play!

What a schmuck - the hurricane is not expected to hit until TUESDAY, the purpose of moving it up is to make sure that it does not interfere with the contra flow expected to start Saturday night. They moved the game up because of a traffic flow issue, NOT because they are trying to get it in before the game. Haven't seen Southern Miss, UAB, Auburn, Texas A&M, or Houston change their schedules because of a hurricane 84 hours away. LSU does the prudent thing and gets blasted, not one word about the other schools! Another typical tuscaloser. Posted 08/29/2008 4:14 PMReply

Some people like to say things like this just to get press time. "If it don't bleed, it don't lead!" Posted 08/29/2008 4:43 PMReply
