Cheat Cheat if You Can't Win: Marital Infidelity Rates on the Rise According to UofC Study

Adultery. Something most college students don't experience first hand. (Unless you're an early bloomer like our friend Nate Archibold) Cheating, on the other hand, is arguably quite prevalent in the ambiguous relationship landscape of College. Infidelity always leads to drama- so what's the news?

According to a new study conducted by the University of Chicago and sponsored by the National Science Foundation marriage infidelity rates are on the rise. The study demonstrate that 20% of men and 15% of women under 35 (in 2006) claimed to be unfaithful (up from 15 and 12 in 1991). There is also an increase among men and women over 60 (up 8% for men and 10% for women). And then there is the general increasing trend- in one year about 10% of married couples admit to being unfaithful..

Why such an increase? Viagra, hip replacements, pornography-- better health and easier access to sexual promiscuity practices-- they claim. But no more statistics! How does this study affect me, you ask. Well...

There is that hot young writing TA (wearing a band) who gives you an exuberant amount of positive feedback. And then there's that Classics Prof you secretly swoon over, who totally gives the eye- I mean, 65's distinguished. I am certainly not advising anything. But I will say, statistics seem to be (somewhat) on your side.

So is there any good news for the loyal? Well, married couples in general seem to be spending more time together, tending to have more active sex lives. They report having sex 58 times a year (a little more than once a week). So if you're not getting some now, there is still hope for long happy times ahead. And for the time being... porn?
