Big Ten Football Predictions

Big Ten Football Predictions

Zombie Nation took the liberty of wrongly, iditoically forecasting the Big Ten fall football season.  I won't go into detail on the reasoning behind the list (you can check it out here) but I will say this: they've got it all wrong.

Big time.

Wisconsin is hyped in the #3 slot with the following note:

"The Badgers dropped to third by the skin of Bucky's fur - 1 vote separates Penn State and Wisconsin. Like Penn State, no voters had the Badgers any lower than 5th with MGoBlog being the culprit/non-believer."

Predicted order of finish:
1. Ohio State (t)
2. Penn State (t)
3. Michigan State
4. Wisconsin
5. Purdue
6. Iowa
7. Illinois
8. Northwestern
9. Indiana
10. Michigan
11. Minnesota

Michigan at 10th? Michigan STATE at 3rd? You've got to be kidding me. Posted 06/12/2008 12:20 PMReply

Michigan was given Vegas odds of 30-1 to win the National Championship, only 9 teams in the COUNTRY were given better odds to win it all. Yet this list has 9 teams in the BIG TEN ALONE favored to finish higher?!?!? I realize that Michigan is by no means in the top 10, maybe not even in the top 25, but 10th in a sub-par conference? Are you f*ckin nuts? Posted 06/12/2008 2:00 PMReply

Michigan hasn't had a losing record in a million years and now they're predicting them to come 2nd to last?? Michigan is bringing in a lot very talented freshman next year to sport the winged helmets. There's no way they finish worse than 5th or with a losing record.

GO BLUE!

"We'll let you be the judge."

Isn't the judge the NCAA/Big Ten, who looks at the numbers of wins and losses each team has at the end of the season?

Hate to break it to you, but Michigan is not going to be good this year. Its hard to win without a QB. I'm going to be in Ann Arbor for the NU game, Go 'Cats! Posted 06/13/2008 12:06 PMReply

Whoever posted the list above, that list is the prediction from the zombie nation alone (one person's thoughts). If you look at the article posted at Zombie nation he compiles predictions from bloggers from all across the conference. So maybe whoever posted this article should post the right list. (full disclosure: I'm a Penn State fan) Other than the Michigan at 10th (and lord knows I'd love that one to be correct), I don't see anything egregiously wrong with this list. Yes, I'd probably put Wisconsin no lower than 3rd myself due to a ridiculously easy schedule (toughest road game: East Lansing??), but really, there's not much to fear on that team other than PJ Hill and maybe Travis Beckum. I do agree that MSU could be a sleeper team this year, they were far more impressive than Wisconsin against us last year. I don't think Wisconsin will end up 4th, but is it really that unfathomable? My top 5 would probably be OSU, PSU, Wisc, MSU, and Iowa (they dont play OSU or Mich this year, ugh), but if MSU and Wisc were switched I can't say I'd be that surprised. 10th? How many times does Michigan play Appalachian State? Posted 06/13/2008 3:21 PMReply

wow this probably the worst list I've seen so far. I can't believe you have balls to criticize zombienation and then put this list up. At least they explain why they have their rankings ( and their rankings are pretty reasonable) Posted 06/13/2008 4:08 PMReply

Minnesota Last....wrong. You are a moron! Adam Weber will only be better - along with a solid recruiting class. Posted 06/13/2008 8:41 PMReply

What top tired historic program last year had a terrible season last year. They lost all of there offensive starters and sucked because they had to rebuild. Notre Dame. Doesn't this remind you of Michigan, they lost all of their starters. They will also have to learn a new offensive system. Granted they don't play as hard of a schedule as Notre Dame did last year at best I only see them maybe winning six games. Posted 06/13/2008 11:37 PMReply

NU never gets any respect. They have the best QB and arguably the best running back in the big ten. I say the cats surprise everyone and finish in the top 5 of the big ten if not first. Go Cats. Posted 06/14/2008 10:04 AMReply

1 & 2 are right. Beyond that, who knows? Ohio State returns their NC team. Penn State returns virtually their entire team + a stud running back, TE & 2 good QB's. Posted 06/14/2008 3:16 PMReply

I don't think Michigan WILL finish 10th, but they CAN finish 10th. And the only reason that they are 30-1 in Vegas is because of myopic UM fans with a lot of money and little brain. 2 or 3 years from now they could be in contention again, but a new system with no line, no QB, no RB, no WR? 5 wins is probably the max. Last poster is a moron. Anyone CAN finish 10th, so thanks for that awesome insight. Also, no RB or WR for Michigan? It seems like all Rodriguez did was bring in a bunch of highly rated RB, WR, and slot guys in addition to the top 100 guys Carr had already recruited. You can talk all you want about a new system, bad O-line, etc., but that team just has way too much talent to finish behind Iowa, Northwestern, and Indiana. Seriously, all of Iowa's players are in jail -- they'll be horrible this year. Posted 06/15/2008 4:24 PMReply

Michigan and Ohio State are always 1-2, but I'd say drop Michigan to 5 based on learning the spread offense and a lack of a qb. Using returning players as an excuse for preseason rankings are usually the reason why preseason rankings are incorrect.

Ohio State and Michigan prove time and time again that it's much better to be playing Frosh/Soph 4-5 Star players from Ohio/Pennsylvania than having "experienced" mediocre players that will never be drafted anywhere before the 6th round. Call it arrogance, but come back when a team other than OSU, UM, or possibly Penn State makes a BCS bowl. Until then, enjoy the bragging rights in June.

OSU will go undefeated and actually win the nation title this year. PSU will go to the Rose bowl. Michigan will win 5 games overall tops and finsih 8th in big ten play. Penn State wins the Big Ten and possibly plays for the national title in 2009/2010 season. Michigan will be a non factor until 2011 at the earliest. Posted 06/22/2008 01:14 AMReply

What is the difference between Penn State and the State Pen? Penn State had more players arrested in the last year. Posted 07/12/2008 4:08 PMReply

Whoever wrote this is an idiot: Call it arrogance, but come back when a team other than OSU, UM, or possibly Penn State makes a BCS bowl.... Illinois made it to the rose bowl last year and last I checked thats a BCS bowl.

Michigan won't finish 10th but they will not be good. RichRod's system only works good with speed. Steven Threet and Carlos Brown are NOT Pat White and Steve Slaton. In order for Michigan to return to glory they can no longer recruit the pocket passers and grind it out backs the Midwest produces, now they are going to have to recruit mobile quarterbacks and speed backs that the south produces and steal those players that usually end up in the SEC

you guys need to stop hating on michigan. everyone says we have "no qb" but thats only because you have no idea who he is. did anyone know who chad henne was when he started? exactly. michigan will be fine. im not saying they win every game but im definitely not saying they lose a bunch of games. im guessing 3rd or 4th in the big ten.
